How to Choose Pure Cow Ghee: 6 Things to Check on the Label

A simple checklist for buying cow ghee online: ingredients, FSSAI licence, dates, net weight, packaging and storage.

1. Read the ingredient list

Pure ghee has one ingredient: milk fat. If a label lists anything else, it is not plain ghee. The PR cow ghee pack names milk fat and carries an allergen note that it contains milk.

2. Look for the FSSAI licence number

Every packed food must show the FSSAI logo and a 14-digit licence number. You can check a licence number on the FSSAI FoSCoS website.

3. Check the packing and use-by dates

A genuine pack shows the batch number, date of packaging and use-by date. PR jars show them in a white box on the back of the label.

4. Compare weight and volume

Ghee is sold by volume and by weight. One litre of ghee weighs about 910 g, which is why a 1 L PR cow ghee jar says 1 L (910 g) on the front.

5. Check the seal and the jar

The cap should be sealed and the jar undamaged. If a pack arrives leaked or damaged, contact us within 48 hours with a photo and we will help.

6. Store it well

Keep ghee in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and always use a dry spoon.
